Abstract
The aim of the present study is to explore the development of causal explanations obtained from bilingual adolescents from a public school in Ayacucho (Perú), concerning multiple tasks related to physical causality (rise in water level and flotation). The development of causal explanations is compared to operations development (i.e. conservation of substance and weight), as a means to explore the way in which the development of causality and operations articulate with each other. The study was based on Jean Piaget’s theoretical framework and the use of his “clinical-critical” method for assessing the causal explanations given by the adolescents. The results obtained corroborate the original findings of the work of Piaget and his collaborators and provide support to the validity of piagetian theory in other social contexts
