The purpose of this master's thesis is to examine how the author establishes a stance in favor of the Afro-Peruvian community and how he challenges the racist undercurrent in some stories of Antonio Gálvez Ronceros's *Monólogo desde las tinieblas* (1975). To this end, the present study is divided into three parts. The first provides an overview of the literary criticism that has addressed the book in order to identify the main lines of interpretation and confirm that, in most cases, the primary concern of researchers has been evaluating the fidelity of the representation of the cultural referent to which it refers (the Afro-Peruvian world of the rural area of Chincha). The second part briefly discusses some ideas about popular culture and, specifically, forms related to carnival, according to Mikhail Bakhtin's theoretical framework. Using these categories, three stories are analyzed to demonstrate that the use of carnivalesque rhetoric is one of the mechanisms the author employs to dismantle the racist discourse that plagues the Black characters. In the third section, after briefly discussing the predominant racist locus in Peruvian narrative, the analysis examines how some stories rework canonical forms such as the letter, the coming-of-age novel, or the Bible in order to reinterpret and revalue, with irony and humor, the situation of this population, in a dynamic that highlights the deliberately dialogic nature of the book. It is concluded that, indeed, some stories in Gálvez Ronceros's book, through specific textual resources, manage to express a clear position of the author regarding the Afro-Peruvian population.
