Abstract
The aim of this research was to describe the features in the mentor-student relationship through the report of the actors of a public highschool of Lima, to explore the characteristics of the relationship and provide information in a topic that has not been investigated in Peru. To this purpose, semi-structured interviews were conducted to four mentors and six students in fourth grade, and also the Annual Plan of Mentoring 2013 was revised. Results from the analysis of interviews and PAT2013, identified four profiles of mentors. This typology of mentor is associated with two types of relationship, according to their characteristics. When the mentor is authoritative, there is perception of support and trust in the relationship, which provides support in the academic, emotional and family areas. However when the mentor is repressive- authoritarian, permissive-indulgent and permissive-negligent, there is a rift in the relationship because the student does not perceive support and trust. It was also found that a flexible methodology and focused on the needs of students, also contributes to the relationship between the two actors. Therefore, it is concluded that during adolescence, the mentor- student relationship is established as a formative aspect that contribute to the optimal development of the adolescent in its multiple dimensions. It concludes with recommendations and opportunities for future research.
