Abstract
The purpose of this research was to compare the levels of quality of life related to health (HRQoL) and coping in migrants and non-migrants patients with breast cancer migrants. It featured 89 adult women (migrants =46.1%, nonmigrants =53.9%), ranging in age from 30 to 69 years(M=48, DE=8.79). The instruments used include SF-36 health survey, developed by Ware and Sherbourne (1992) and adapted by Alonso, Prieto, and Anto (1995); and the COPE Inventory, created by Carver, Scheier, and Weintraub (1989) and adapted by Cassaretto and Chau (2016). As a main result, it was found that migrant patients have lower scores than non-migrant patients in mental component of HRQoL. In addition, women who come from other cities make less use of the strategies acceptance and positive reinterpretation and growth unlike migrant patients. As for the HRQoL, it was found that generally this is preserved both, the mental and physical component. Regarding coping strategies, the most used was turning to religion and the least used was use of alcohol or drugs. As for the socio-demographic factors, that were related to the constructs were age, level of education, affective state, time of diagnosis, type and timing of treatment, and current home.
