Abstract
The advance of web technology and the emergence of citizen journalism help to develop a type of user who produces and consumes at the same time, called prosumer. This new character now proliferates the web and distributes news. The prosumer gains so much popularity that can become a reference and be hired by the media. This research aims to define wheter the prosumers follow a news content production process similar to that of journalists. For this, the theoretical framework includes concepts such as prosumer, blogger, citizen journalism, cyber journalism and web. Interviews have been conducted to well-known prosumers who generate news content: Jaime Serra (“Argolla TV”), Gerardo García (“El Cacash”) y Marisol Cuéllar (“Una Politóloga”). It is concluded that prosumers do not replicate the production process of journalists but there are similarities, and that their news content is influenced by their beliefs and convictions. Although they go against the impartiality of journalism, this is what ultimately makes their content fresh and new.
