This theoretical-practical investigation from the arts, makes a record about the exploratory process and the elaboration of a short-format collective creation theatre play with university Theatre students. The formulated questions is: In which way the social speech present in salsa conciencia songs works as a tool for the creation of a collective creation short-format scenical product with Theatre students? It seemed appropriate to use this music genre as a creative tool because the narrative capability and the message found in their lyrics talk about topics that affect us directly, as a latin-american community. The hypothesis indicates that, taking in consideration the social issues treated in salsa conciencia lyrics and for being aesthetically built around the popular traditions (rhythm, rhyme, poetic images), they are a really stimulating and effective way to connect to a collective creation theatrical work. The first chapter addresses the salsa and salsa conciencia historical background, concluding in the lyrics talking about societal issues such as loneliness and abandonment. Also, it is noticed that, despite of not addressing topics about gender in their songs, the mention of the woman as a character in the songs reflect that, in fact, we develop under a patriarchy. In the second chapter, we make an introduction to the collective creation concept and its impact in the latinamerican theatre. In the last chapter, we present the laboratory methodology, its development, results, conclusions per session and the analysis of the presentation. In these conclusions, we reflect with the perspectives given from the participants related to the exit test. It is concluded that the exploration process was a success and the salsa conciencia lyrics made the creation process much easier.
