masculinidad.
This research aims to explore the process of masculinity construction among university students in Science and Engineering and Humanities programs at a private university in Lima. A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted to understand the personal experiences and lived realities of six male participants aged between 18 and 25. The findings reveal that while participants initially adopted a hegemonic masculinity influenced by their family and school environments, their entry into university provided a more open and diverse space, facilitating the questioning and redefinition of their masculinity. In this way the participants indicated a transition towards an alternative masculinity characterized by greater emotional openness, empathy and rejection of traditional stereotypes. Additionally, both positive and negative impacts on family, friendship and couple relationships were identified due to this new way of expressing their masculinity.
