Perceptual geography emerges as a fundamental geographic approach to understand the complexity of interactions between individuals and their urban environment, analyzing how preferences, values, memories and points of view of citizens influence the construction of collective identities. In this sense, this research responds to the need to understand how this approach influences the formation of identities in young urban environments, specifically in the district of San Borja. The objective is to analyze the urban social identity and the sense of community of the residents of San Borja district, formulating the hypothesis that the interaction of the population with its environment, especially through the relevance of urban and social factors such as green areas and social work of municipal management, contributes to the construction of a district identity. The research is based on theories related to individual and collective perception, as well as different concepts of identity and sense of belonging. A phenomenological research design is used that includes interviews with residents and key actors of the district, which allows obtaining qualitative data on their perceptions and experiences. The results show that most of the interviewees agree in positively assessing the physical aspect of San Borja, describing it as a green, ecological and welcoming place, while the social aspect presents more diverse opinions, reflecting a deficit in community interaction and participation. Although the district identity is perceived among residents, it was found that not all of them feel part of the community. The main conclusion highlights that, although there are elements that favor the district identity, greater attention to inclusion and active participation of citizens is required to strengthen the sense of community in San Borja.
