Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore and analyze the relation between the sense of community, community participation and values in a group of community leaders living in vulnerable social contexts. For this purpose, surveys were applied to 78 community leaders. Results showed significant relations among the dimensions of Sense of Community Index (membership, emotional connection, integration and fulfillment of needs and influence), thoughts, practices and involvement of community leaders with the participation on their communities. Moreover, values showed that the different activities and community organization, thoughts and practices related with the participation proved there is a positive association between them. Finally a path analysis was performed to analyze the relationship among all the study variables. The results suggest a model where the values of the sub-function experimentation and the community participation on communities’ leaders have influence on the activities and organization where those leaders participate. At the same time, these two variables empower the sense of community.
