Abstract
El sector de los textiles y las confecciones, tiene una importancia histórica para
Colombia, ya que ha sido un motor de su desarrollo por cerca de 100 años. En la actualidad
enfrenta una coyuntura muy importante, ya que a la vez que se abren los mercados para las
exportaciones, también se inunda el mercado interno con prendas de bajo costo provenientes
de otros productores.
Cabe también anotar, que es un sector que genera gran cantidad de empleo, lo que lo
hace tener una importancia estratégica para el gobierno, si busca cumplir con sus metas de
desarrollo interno y social del país, así como absorber la población que está entrando en la
vida laboral, ya sea por las características demográficas del país, la migración a las ciudades
y el postconflicto.
Es por eso que este trabajo de planeamiento estratégico toma gran importancia, redefinir
el sector y buscar nuevos productos y mercados es imprescindible para el futuro del sector.
Buscar nuevas tecnologías, materiales, procesos o diseños de vanguardia que le permitan al
sector posicionarse en el mercado global y capturar para el país una cuota de mercado
significativa, y con ello generar ingresos y empleo para el país. El sector necesita de
inversiones importantes en investigación y desarrollo, en capacitación para todo el capital
humano que participa en la cadena productiva y en infraestructura para mejorar la
competitividad del país.
Este es un reto inmenso y solo puede lograrse con la articulación de los esfuerzos del
gobierno, los empresarios privados, los gremios, los trabajadores y la academia. Si Colombia
desea tener un sector textil y de las confecciones de clase mundial, es imperativo tomar las
acciones descritas anteriormente y alinear el esfuerzo de todos los interesados.
The apparel and textile industrial sector has a historical meaning for Colombia; driving the economy growth for about 100 years. Currently facing very important transformation because the access to new foreign markets, and because the domestic market flooded with low cost apparels from other producing countries. It is also worth to mention, that the sector generates lots of jobs, which makes it have a strategic importance for the government, in order to meet internal goals for social development as well to absorb the population is entering working age, either by the demographics, urban migration and the post-conflict. That's why this strategic planning paper plays a key role, redefine the industry and find new products and markets is critical to the future of this sector. Search new technologies, materials, processes or cutting edge designs that will enable the sector to position itself on the global market and to capture a significant market share, and thereby generate income, growth and employment for the country. The sector needs substantial investments in research and development, training for all human resources involved in the production chain and in infrastructure to improve the country's competitiveness. This is an enormous challenge and can only be achieved with the joint efforts of the government, private investors, associations, workers and academia. If Colombia wants a world class textile and apparel industry, it is imperative to take the actions described above and align the efforts of all stakeholders.
