This qualitative research aims to analyze the perceptions of young homosexual and bisexual individuals regarding violence in intimate relationships. To this end, a socio-constructionist approach was used, and eight semi-structured interviews were conducted to meet the research objectives. The analysis identified that violence is perceived as a progressive and escalating problem that is often concealed in the name of (romantic) love, especially in emerging adulthood. The violence and discrimination present in society against the LGB population can contribute to minimizing the perception of violence within a relationship. Likewise, the socially imposed heterocentric order, which places masculinity above femininity, influences the development and conceptions of all people; even in LGB relationships, femininity continues to be associated with endurance and sacrifice. In this sense, the feminized person, whether male or female, is often the most affected in a violent relationship. Recognition of this difficulty generates a dispute over power, control, and the hierarchy that comes with projecting masculinity or femininity. The complexity of the dynamics of relationships formed by bisexual people deserves special mention, as they tend to be the most stigmatized in terms of fidelity and romantic exclusivity, both within and outside the LGBT community. Likewise, the experience of their sexuality is highly questioned, and they are pigeonholed according to the sex of their partner or previous partners, invalidating their own experience and self-perception.
