Abstract
Peruvian National identity is diverse and complex due the multiple variables that have influenced, and still influence, its construction. This text, focusing on the musical cultural variable, attempts to demonstrate and analyze the way in which the North American musical genre jazz influences the construction of the current national identity of peruvian musicians. This is due the fact that the practice of this genre allows it to adopt the compositional and technical elements that define it within the representative musical genres of Peru, thus forming a new sound of peruvian music that allows the redefinition of the collective identity discourse. In addition, it will be analyzed if there is any ethical problem in this appropriation of the jazz genre in Peru, contrasting it with the way in which this genre is denounced in Colombia for its evident relationship of dominance and devaluing of the autochthonous. The hypothesis presented is argued through the use of bibliographic sources to be able to explain the Peruvian national identity as an identity able to change without losing its essence throughout history. Likewise, taking into consideration research carried out previously about jazz and fusion music in Peru, it will be explained and analyzed what are the elements of jazz that are adopted in peruvian music to give this new sound that redefine the discourse of collective identity in peruvian musicians and listeners.
