El auge de la creación musical asistida por inteligencia artificial y su impacto en la industria musical

Abstract

Esta investigación busca analizar el apogeo de la creación musical asistida por inteligencia artificial (IA) y su impacto en la industria musical, basándose en el importante rol que esta tecnología ha adquirido en los últimos años en la sociedad en general. Pese a que se han hecho previamente estudios sobre el uso de la IA en la música, no se ha encontrado ninguno que aborde considerablemente los problemas éticos que giran alrededor del empleo de esta tecnología. La presente investigación busca hacer esa aproximación, y para lograrlo se muestra primero la evolución histórica que ha tenido la IA desde mediados del siglo XX hasta la actualidad. Esto con el propósito de poder contextualizar la temática y entender el desarrollo que ha tenido la IA. Después, se habla de los motivos del rechazo de la gente y de los músicos hacia la creación musical por algoritmos. Posteriormente, se evalúan fenómenos actuales en la industria musical que han aprovechado esta herramienta en un ambiente creativo: la composición, la clonación de voces y la separación de audio por pistas. Se exponen ejemplos de artistas que las usaron, así como los problemas éticos que surgen al emplear la IA en la industria musical y potenciales soluciones. Finalmente, se menciona respecto a cómo se puede definir los derechos de autor cuando el producto artístico ha sido intervenido por IA, así como las medidas que se pueden tomar para que el entrenamiento de estas IA (que se suele hacer con material protegido por derechos de autor) se pueda concretar de manera correcta, beneficiando así a todas las partes involucradas. Se espera que el lector de este trabajo pueda tomar consciencia respecto al significativo papel que la IA tiene y tendrá en esta industria.

This research seeks to analyze the rise of music creation assisted by artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the music industry, based on the important role that this technology has acquired in recent years in society in general. Although studies have been previously done on the use of AI in music, none have been found that significantly address the ethical problems that revolve around the use of this technology. This research seeks to make that approach, and to achieve this, it first shows the historical evolution that AI has had from the mid-twentieth century to the present. This with the purpose of being able to contextualize the subject and understand the development that AI has had. Then, it discusses the reasons for people’s and musicians' rejection of music creation by algorithms. Later, current phenomena in the music industry that have taken advantage of this tool in a creative environment are evaluated: composition, voice cloning, and audio separation by tracks. Examples of artists who used them are presented, as well as the ethical problems that arise when using AI in the music industry and potential solutions. Finally, it is mentioned how copyright can be defined when the artistic product has been manipulated by AI, as well as the measures that can be taken so that the training of these AIs (which is usually done with copyrighted material) can be carried out correctly, thus benefiting all parties involved. It is hoped that the reader of this work can become aware of the significant role that AI has and will have in this industry.
