The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of first-time mothers of preschoolaged children diagnosed with ASD in Metropolitan Lima. A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted, using thematic analysis to identify patterns in their experiences. Seven mothers of children with ASD, aged 3 to 5 years were interviewed. Results were organized into six thematic axes: First signs and grief upon confirming their child’s ASD, concerns about the child’s future, challenges and adjustments, mother-child interactions, satisfactions, achievements, and learning, and support and containment networks in motherhood. Findings show that their experiences involve processes from pain to acceptance and perseverance in caring for their child. Mothers express concerns and challenges that lead them to adjustments in their daily lives, as well as interactions that bring them satisfaction. They emphasize the importance of support networks as part of their experience.
