Abstract
The aim of this research was to study the relationship between Work Engagement and Sense of Coherence in a group of caregivers that work with elder people with dementia in a geriatric residence in Lima. In order to do this, we evaluated 32 caregivers between 20 and 59 years old (M= 42.3; DE= 10.6), using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale – UWES-17 (Schaufeli, Bakker y Salanova, 2003), and the Sense of Coherence Questionnaire – SOC-13 (Antonovsky, 1987). The results did not show any correlation between Work Engagement and Sense of Coherence in the evaluated group; but there were correlations between the dimensions of the scales. In addition, the results showed differences between the variables and their dimensions and some sociodemographic variables as hours of work, relationship with the patient and working with more than one patient.
