Abstract
The main thesis objective is to contribute to the state of the art of earthquake resistant design of bridges with seismic protection systems, by comparing the seismic performance of a bridge with seismic isolators and a bridge with seismic isolators plus viscous fluid dampers, for which which took the case study of the Quilca bridge. The seismic performance of the Quilca bridge was determined against the seismic demand of the MTC 2017 Bridge Manual, by means of a nonlinear static analysis (push over), both in the longitudinal direction and in the transverse direction. Then 3 case studies were established; the first considers the Quilca bridge in its existing state, the second almost considers the inclusion of a seismic isolation system with devices with LRB lead core, and the third case considers the inclusion of a hybrid protection system, made up of a system of seismic isolation and the inclusion of viscous fluid dampers. Modal spectral seismic analyzes and non-linear time history were realized for the 3 cases of analysis mentioned, obtaining records of displacements, shear forces and bending moments, fundamental periods, damping, among others. In the analysis of results chapter, the results obtained in each case study are summarized and discussed. Finally, the 3 case studies are compared, analyzing each parameter through comparative graphs, and determining the alternative with the best seismic performance.
