Abstract
This investigation aim to explore the existing relationships between self-concept clarity, self-esteem and quality of relationships of adult couples between 20 to 62 years of age in Lima. The objective was to analyze variations in these relationships by genders male and female. For this, the Self-Concept Clarity Scale (SCC), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SE) and Rusbult’s Investment Model were offered and conducted between 61 heterosexual couples. It was discovered that for both male and female members of couples the variable of self-esteem had a positive asosiation with clarity of self-concept (rM= .662, p= .006; rF= .597, p= .000) and with the subscale of satisfaction in relationship with their significant others (rM= .280, p= .029; rF= .326, p= .010). Additionally, the variable clarity of self-concept displayed positive associations with diverse subscales of Rusbult’s Investment Model: in the case of male individuals pertaining to couples, evidence was discovered that there is a relationship between self-concept and compromise; in female members of couples it was found with the variables quality of alternatives and satisfaction, the last association mediated by self-esteem.
