Feminidades y Masculinidades: Concepciones de un grupo de docentes de Lima Metropolitana

Abstract

Los estereotipos de género influyen en la construcción de la identidad y en la forma en que interactuamos e interpretamos el entorno, desde muy temprana edad. En el Perú, estos definen la masculinidad y feminidad como categorías opuestas y complementarias, que se asocian a distintas características y comportamientos, lo que limita a las personas. Estos son transmitidos por diversos agentes, incluidos los y las docentes de la escuela. Las concepciones de género que posean influyen en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje, y pueden generar desigualdades entre niños y niñas, afectando negativamente el desempeño y motivación de los y las estudiantes. Por ello, el objetivo principal de esta investigación es analizar las concepciones de la feminidad y masculinidad que tienen un grupo de docentes de educación Primaria de Lima Metropolitana sobre sus estudiantes. Para ello, se realizó una investigación cualitativa compuesta de entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas con 11 docentes. Se encontró que los y las docentes, aunque mantenían algunas concepciones tradicionales sobre el género, consideraban que las capacidades que poseen y los roles que pueden ejercer hombres y mujeres son independientes del género. Estas concepciones de los y las docentes influyen en la percepción que tienen de sus estudiantes, pues actúan como una base para interpretar sus actitudes y comportamientos; y en las concepciones de género que poseen los estudiantes, pues la interacción y el conflicto entre las concepciones de los y las docentes y estudiantes ocasiona que estas últimas se vayan modificando y flexibilizando.

Gender stereotypes influence the construction of identity and the way we interact and interpret our surroundings from a very early age. In Peru, these stereotypes define masculinity and femininity as opposite and complementary categories, which are associated with different characteristics and behaviors, thus limiting people. These are transmitted by various agents, including school teachers. The gender conceptions they hold influence the teaching and learning process, and can generate inequalities between boys and girls, negatively affecting students' performance and motivation. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to analyze the conceptions of femininity and masculinity that a group of primary school teachers in Metropolitan Lima have about their students. For this purpose, qualitative research was carried out through semi-structured interviews with 11 teachers. It was found that the teachers, although they maintained some traditional conceptions about gender, considered that the capacities they possess and the roles that men and women can exercise are independent of gender. These conceptions of the teachers influence the perception they have of their students, since they act as a basis for interpreting their attitudes and behaviors; and in the conceptions of gender held by the students, since the interaction and conflict between the conceptions of teachers and students cause the latter to modify and become more flexible.
