derechos.
The present study aims to describe the Social Representations (SR) surrounding Same- Sex Parental Adopción (SA) among homosexual couples in Metropolitan Lima. Therefore, a qualitative study was conducted using a reflective thematic analysis design, which allowed for the identification of the most prevalent factors surrounding SA in homosexual couples. For this purpose, semi-structured interviews were conducted with six homosexual couples. The results show that the SRs of homosexual couples encompass the following themes: factors that influence the negative opinion of SA, reasons why they do not adopt, and reasons for legalizing SA. The first theme included ambivalent opinions regarding children of same-sex parents, as well as negative opinions about SA. The second theme included factors such as changes in the relationship, requirements, and alternative methods to adoption. The last theme included positive opinions about same-sex parents. It can be concluded that same-sex adoption involves considerations such as discrimination, the best interests of the child, and the sexual orientation of the adoptive parents. However, the potential well-being of the child and the guarantee of equal rights for same-sex couples are socially represented as conditioned by conservative positions that hinder the full recognition and exercise of rights.
