Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study the relationship between academic stress and health behaviors in a group of 130 university students, which are studying their first two years of college. The SISCO Inventory of Academic Stress and the Questionnaire of lifestyles for college students (CEVJU) were administered. Then, the respective statistical analyses were done and the correlations between academic stress and health behaviors were found. The results indicated a “moderately high” academic stress level in these participants, the main generating stress situations were assessments, lack of time and academic overload, while the psychological reactions were the more reported. On the other hand, man had more alcohol, smoke and drugs consumption than woman. Regarding to the relationship between the two variables studied, only the level of perceived academic stress correlated inversely with sleep behaviors. The stressors’ impact correlated inversely with physical activity, recreation and leisure management and sleep behaviors. Also, all symptoms correlated negatively with these last behaviors. Finally, it mentioned the importance of continuing research in university health issues, because this would strengthen programs related to improve the of students’ quality of life.
