Abstract
The objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between achievement goal orientation, academic resilience, and performance in the mathematics course in 3rd and 4th high school students in Metropolitan Lima. The sample was made up of 202 3rd and 4th grade secondary school students from mixed public and private schools in Lima. 42% were men and 58% women, their ages fluctuated between 13 and 16 years (M=15), they were in third (45%) and fourth (55%) year of secondary school in public (25%) and private (75%) schools in Metropolitan Lima. The Achievement Goals Questionnaire – Revised, the Academic Resilience Scale [ARS-30] and the self-reported mathematics grades from the students were used. It was found that the Performance - Approach orientation and academic performance were positively related, as well as the Mastery - Approach with Resilience, and academic resilience with academic performance. It is concluded that academic performance in mathematics is explained to a small extent by the orientations of Performance- Approach, Mastery- Approach and academic resilience, which responds to the multifactorial characteristic of academic performance. It should be noted that for this research, the ethical requirements were considered in access to the sample, as well as in data processing. The research has allowed us to analyze the possible changes that the pandemic generated in the motivations and resilience in some groups of high school students in Lima. However, the study was limited by the difficulty in accessing the sample of school students from public institutions and by the virtual environment.
