Abstract
This research consists in the analysis of a corpus of maps of Lima produced between years 1977 and 2021, from State and private sphere; with diverse ends and from different areas, such as science, politics, advertising, education or health. Its reading allows us to reflect about the ways in which we limeños (dwellers of Lima) imagine our city and about the ways in which we recognize ourselves and relate with the territory, in so far as producers and users of this eccentric and vertiginous city that is Lima. The urban ordering of Lima is a reflection of the social problems related to our city, resulting from the historic processes through which Lima passed, above all, from the beginning of the second half of the XXth. century. These processes took place according to the contingencies of specific moments, placing some in privileged positions, and others, in positions that dwell on the margins. The analysis seeks to understand the maps together with the processes of urban transformation that generated them. Maps are seen as representation tools that present themselves as objective, but perform as devices of power and contribute to the formation of urban imaginaries that normalize marginalization, injustice, relationships of inequality and the sense of not appurtenance to the city itself.
