Voces en resistencia: El discurso político hallado en el diario espiritual de Úrsula de Jesús

Abstract

En esta tesis se analizará el Diario Espiritual de Úrsula de Jesús (Lima, 1604-1666). Centraremos el análisis en el contexto socio-cultural y espiritual de la Lima Barroca para analizar cómo en el diario se configura la identidad de los esclavos y libertos afroperuanos, y sus formas de resistencia para negociar un espacio en la sociedad virreinal. Para ello, emplearemos la teoría decolonial y los postulados de la filosofía política de Jacques Rancière. El objetivo de esta tesis es demostrar que desde la identidad en resistencia de Úrsula se entreteje, en el diario espiritual, un discurso, a modo de acto político, que subvierte el orden social y espiritual de inicios del siglo XVII, a fin de reinterpretar y re-inscribir a las identidades afrodescendientes en el entramado socioespiritual.

In this thesis, an analysis of the Spiritual Diary of Úrsula de Jesús (Lima, 1604-1666) will be conducted. The analysis will focus on the socio-cultural and spiritual context of Baroque Lima to examine how the identities of Afro-Peruvian slaves and freed persons are configured in the Diary, as well as their forms of resistance in negotiating a space within viceregal society. To this end, we will employ decolonial theory and the postulates of the political philosophy of Jacques Rancière. The objective of this thesis is to demonstrate that, through Úrsula’s identity in resistance, a discourse is woven into the text as a political act, subverting the social and spiritual order of the early seventeenth century, with the aim of reinterpreting and reinscribing Afro-descendant identities within the socio-spiritual framework.
