Impulsividad y conductas suicidas en alcohólicos en tratamiento

Abstract

La presente investigación tiene como objetivo principal explorar la relación entre la impulsividad y las conductas suicidas en una muestra de 50 pacientes alcohólicos entre los 20 y 67 años que se encontraban internados en 9 comunidades terapéuticas de Lima. Se utilizó el Inventario de Impulsividad de Dickman (DII), que distingue entre impulsividad disfuncional (ID) e impulsividad funcional (IF) y la Escala de Ideación Suicida de Beck (BSS) desarrollada por Beck et al. (1988). Adicionalmente se utilizó una ficha de datos generales elaborada por el autor que recoge información demográfica, así como datos referidos al internamiento y consumo. Aquellos pacientes que intentaron suicidarse tienen un puntaje significativamente mayor en la escala ID que aquellos que no lo han intentado, además se encontró correlaciones significativas de la escala ID con antecedente de intento de suicidio, el considerarse agresivo y el tener familiares que se suicidaron. No se encontraron correlaciones ni diferencias significativas en IF. Los resultados sugieren que los individuos con tendencia a ID se encuentran en mayor riesgo de suicidio. Dada su simpleza se sugiere el uso de DII como una prueba de screening y una herramienta adicional de diagnostico y selección de tratamiento.

This research aims to explore the relationship between impulsivity and suicidal behavior in a sample of 50 alcoholic patients between 20 and 67 years old, receiving inpatient treatment in 9 therapeutic communities from Lima. The instruments used were the Dickman Impulsivity Inventory (DII), which distinguishes between dysfunctional impulsivity (ID) and functional impulsivity (IF) and the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSS) developed by Beck et al. (1988). Additionally a general data sheet prepared by the author was used to collect demographic information and data relating inpatient treatment and consumption. The patients who have attempted suicide scored significantly higher on the ID scale than those who never attempted suicide, also the ID scale shows significant correlations with history of attempted suicide, being aggressive and having relatives who committed suicide. Neither correlations nor significant differences were found in IF. The results suggest that individuals with a tendency to ID are at increased risk of suicide. Because of its simplicity it is suggested to use the DII as a screening test and an additional tool for diagnosis and treatment selection.
