Abstract
In this work, we ask ourselves about the linguistic criteria with which Juan de Arona values uses that he recognizes as peruvians in his Diccionario de peruanismos. With this objective, first of all, we propose a conceptual historical framework in which analytical notions such as historical language, variation, exemplary norm and idea of language are developed; likewise, we also resorted to ideas about the Spanish language that were discussed in Europe and America in the 19th century, such as the casticism in the works of Andrés Bello and Rufino José Cuervo. Secondly, we study the paratexts in the Diccionario de peruanismos, since in these paratexts, the author proposes a linguistic unification project, as well as presenting several ideas about the language that will later be projected in the lexicographical entries. In third place, we analyze a previously selected corpus of uses that Arona recognizes as peruvian, but that would have a hispanic origin. In that sense, we divided the corpus into, on the one hand, words of peninsular origin that are used in Perú and that could have maintained their original meaning or not. On the other hand, we deal with neological words that would have derived from hispanic or latin roots. Finally, we propose a discussion based on the results of each section.
