La vivencia de la paternidad post reproducción asistida en hombres padres peruanos

Abstract

El presente estudio cualitativo tuvo como objetivo explorar la vivencia de la paternidad en cuatro hombres que fueron padres mediante una Técnica de Reproducción Asistida (TRA) y con hijos/as entre un mes y los tres años. Como objetivos específicos, se buscó identificar la experiencia subjetiva de cada participante de convertirse en padre mediante un tratamiento de reproducción asistida, y como segundo objetivo específico, explorar cómo vivencian la relación con su hijo/a. Para ello, se realizó un estudio de caso múltiple basado en entrevistas a profundidad con cuatro padres que se encontraban en una relación de pareja estable, que vivían con su hijo/a y pertenecían a un nivel socioeconómico medio. Los resultados se analizaron temáticamente, individual y transversalmente para brindar sentido a la experiencia. Se evidencia que la experiencia de paternidad de los participantes está acompañada de un desgaste emocional a lo largo del tratamiento y de un deseo fluctuante de ser padres. Asimismo, se aprecia que los padres perciben a sus hijos/as como valiosos y fundamentales y a la vez como frágiles y vulnerables por lo vivido en los tratamientos. Se halla cierta tendencia a preocuparse y sobreproteger, pero a la vez a buscar conectar con sus hijos/as emocionalmente. Al asumir los cuidados, la mayoría necesitaría del apoyo de un tercero, pero de igual manera buscarían acercarse a sus hijos y construir una relación. Finalmente, se discuten los resultados obtenidos tomando en cuenta la importancia de visibilizar la experiencia de esta población y dar pie a pensar en futuras intervenciones.

The aim of this qualitative study is to explore the experience of fatherhood in four men who became fathers through an Assisted Reproduction Technique (ART) and have children between one month and three years old. As specific objectives, we seek to identify the subjective experience of each participant of becoming a father through fertility treatment, and as a second specific objective, to explore how they experience the relationship with their children. To achieve this, an exploratory multiple case study was carried out based on indepth interviews with four parents who were in stable relationships, who lived with their children and belonged to a medium socioeconomic level. The results were analyzed thematically, individually and transversally to provide meaning to the experience. It was found that the paternity experience of the participants is accompanied by emotional exhaustion throughout the treatment and a fluctuating desire to be parents. It was also observed that parents perceive their children as valuable and essential, while also fragile and vulnerable due to the treatment conditions. There is also a certain tendency to worry and overprotect, but at the same time an effort to connect with their children emotionally. When assuming caregiving responsibilities, most fathers would require support from others, but at the same time, they would also seek to get closer to their children and build a relationship. Finally, the results are discussed taking into account the importance of making the experience of this population visible and giving rise to thinking about future interventions.
