Satisfacción y bienestar de mujeres autoempleadas

Abstract

La escasa información sobre autoempleo relacionado a las mujeres en el Perú, motivó el desarrollo de la presente investigación; por ello el estudio tiene como propósito identificar los factores que generan la satisfacción y el bienestar en las mujeres dedicadas a un tipo de autoempleo como es el comercio ambulante, para lo cual se exploraron sus características demográficas, sus antecedentes educativos, laborales y familiares, los factores que las impulsaron al autoempleo, su sentir respecto al ambiente físico donde laboran, su opinión en relación a la satisfacción y al bienestar con respecto a la actividad que desempeñan, y las facilidades y los obstáculos que tuvieron que enfrentar para llegar a autoemplearse. El estudio utilizó un enfoque cualitativo de tipo exploratorio, basado en estudios de casos de 30 mujeres entre 24 y 72 años, cuya actividad laboral es el comercio ambulante, el cual tuvo lugar en el distrito de Cercado de Lima, provincia Lima Metropolitana, Perú. Los resultados muestran que los principales factores de satisfacción laboral identificados son: las oportunidades de desarrollo de sus habilidades, la autogestión de su propio negocio, el reconocimiento de pertenecer a una organización y la flexibilidad de horario para disponer de tiempo con sus familias. Los factores de bienestar reconocidos en el estudio son: la satisfacción con lo que hacen, las relaciones positivas con su entorno social, la autoestima que les ocasiona servir a su comunidad, el propósito en la vida que es llegar a tener un puesto formal y la autonomía económica que les generan los ingresos percibidos. Sin embargo existen condiciones laborales que no aportan a la satisfacción y al bienestar como: (a) los sentimientos de inseguridad al percibir ingresos bajos y variables, (b) la inconformidad del ambiente en el que trabajan, y (c) la incertidumbre de perder su puesto por la demora que implican los procesos de renovación de la autorización municipal. Por lo tanto, el estudio recomienda: (a) la ampliación para la obtención de evidencias de un tipo cuantitativo como complemento a este tipo de estudio, (b) la formulación de políticas laborales a partir de los antecedentes demográficos, educativos y familiares de las mujeres que laboran en el comercio ambulante, y (c) la implementación de instrumentos financieros y de capacitación para facilitar su incorporación a la formalidad y la competitividad.

The insufficient information about self-employment related to women in Peru, motivated the development of the present research; therefore, this study aims to identify the factors that generate satisfaction and well-being in women engaged in a type of self-employment such as street trading, for which their demographic characteristics, education, labor and family histories, factors that led them to self-employment, their feelings about the physical environment where they work, their opinion regarding the satisfaction and well-being with respect to the activity they perform, and facilities and obstacles they faced to reach self-employment, were researched. The study used a qualitative approach of exploratory kind, based on case studies of 30 women between 24 and 72 years old whose work activity is street sales, has been held in the district of Center of Lima, in Lima Province, Peru. The results show that the main identified factors of labor satisfaction are: opportunities of development of their skills, self-management of their own business, recognition to belonging to an organization and, flexibility of schedule that allows them to spend time with their families. The welfare factors recognized by the study are: satisfaction with what they do, positive relationships with their social environment, the generated self-esteem because of serving their community, a purpose of life consisting in getting a formal position and the economic autonomy generated by the received income. However there are working conditions that don’t contribute to satisfaction nor well-being such as: (a) feelings of insecurity for receiving low and variable income, (b) nonconformity of the environment where they work, and (c) the uncertainty of losing their positions due to delay of renewal processes of the municipal authorization. Therefore, the study recommends: (a) accomplishment of evidences of quantitative type as complement of this kind of study, (b) the formulation of labor policies based on demographic, educational and family backgrounds of women who work in street trading, and (c) implementation of financial and training tools for facilitate their integration into formality and competitiveness
