This academic paper presents the clinical case of Patty, a 50-year-old woman from a low-income, Quechua-speaking family, who sought psychological assistance due to a family crisis that reactivated traumatic childhood memories related to sexual abuse, neglect, uprootedness, and poverty. Her life story is marked by the absence of caregiving figures during her formative years, and she exhibits relational patterns characterized by emotional dependence and low self-worth. The maternal role emerged as a central element in understanding the organization of her relational dynamics. Among her defense mechanisms, affective dissociation is particularly notable. The therapeutic process facilitated the emergence of ego resources and the identification of changes that allowed her to better cope with the conflictual situations she was facing. Psychotherapy was recommended to work through the unresolved traumatic experiences from her childhood and adolescence. The therapeutic space provided containment for the client, addressing both unprocessed emotions ant the pain derived from adverse experiences throughout her life. This, in turn, fostered a therapeutic bond that led to a resignification of her interactions with her environment.
