The present state of the art gathers the contributions of several authors on the benefits of ICT resources in the teaching and learning of elementary school students in the last twenty years. The methodology is based on a documentary study following the research line of ICT and Education. For its development, three sections are considered: digital literacy in primary school, which includes the strategic use of information, digital identity, literacy for problem solving and learning to learn orientation; skills and abilities developed with ICT, including collaborative work, interaction between teacher and students, as well as between students, and the development of autonomy in their learning; and student motivation and interest. The main findings reveal the contribution of digital literacy in the strategic management of information. It also shows the interrelation in the skills acquired with the use of ICTs. On the other hand, gaps were found in topics such as ICT and motivation, the impact of the benefits of ICT on academic performance and the lack of depth in the teaching role in relation to the use of ICT and the development of skills in students.
