Abstract
Within the practice of musical composition, songwriting has been one of the tools used by musicians to deal with ethical issues or to respond to social problems in the context in which they are immersed. Thus, through the composition of popular songs, artists use their voice and communication agency responding to a responsibility with their audience about the content and the message they generate and how this will affect or influence the listener. In the case of the Peruvian composer Chabuca Granda, this ethical responsibility is evidenced through a social discourse that is present and is modified throughout all her work, which covers ethical issues and social problems related to women, the people, the war and the Afro-Peruvian community. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to expose how this ethical responsibility that Chabuca Granda develops as a composer through the resources she uses, especially in her second and third musical period. Likewise, it seeks to take his work as an example of the relationship between music and ethics, seeing his songs as spaces that escape the norm and allow the generation of encounters of the wars of reality and the approach towards other social classes or cultures; Thus, the ethical conscience of Chabuca Granda is an example of responsibility in the process of creation and of the possibility of art to generate ethical contributions.
