Abstract
All public intervention is born out of the need to offer answers and solutions to specific problems and demands. Sometimes, the needs of the population were combined with the interests of the rulers and gave rise to new representative spaces within the city. In Lima, this is the case of public spaces, precisely that of parks; spaces that also evolved in appearance and use, and that over the years acquired different meanings. This essay seeks to create a brief recognition of the characteristics of Lima's parks over time and lands in the current context in order to understand how they are introduced and transformed in the city. The projects that are addressed include the different trends in public parks, from the origin of this typology in the city to the present day. For this reason, three major metropolitan parks in the city are evaluated el Parque de la Exposición (1872), el Parque Universitario (1921) y el Parque La Muralla (2004).
