Abstract
“cuerpo femenino” y “sexualidad femenina”.
The aim of this study is to analyze how the practice of twerking, a worldwide known urban dance, works as a way of re-appropriation of the female body and sexuality. It is suggested that this dance allows, due to its ritual character, the conversion of the dancer's body into a "political body" capable of taking control over the use of itself and capable of promoting the autonomous exercise of sexuality and sensuality in opposition to what is imposed by the patriarchal society. To develop and argue what is proposed, the investigation is presented in two chapters. In the first chapter, the phenomenon of twerking is explained, with an emphasis on the characteristics of its practice and the positive and negative reception it has had. Additionally, it is explained the conception of women, their body and sexuality according to the regulations imposed by the patriarchal society. It is also contextualized about to the female efforts in art that have been seeking and finding a way to redefine, with a feminist perspective, the concepts "female body" and "female sexuality". On the other hand, in the second chapter, it is explained which ritual characteristics of the performative acts are found in twerking, which allows to expose how the sum of these gives this dance the ability to convert the dancing body into a political body that contains a feminist discourse about reappropriation and de-dramatization of the body and sexuality. Finally, it is analyzed how this discourse affects society by radically opposing the patriarchal conception of how women should be and how they should behave in the public forum.
