Abstract
Among the different issues related to mental health, depression stands out as one of the most relevant in our country due to its great prevalence among the population, especially the adolescent one. In addition to this, the prejudices associated with the disorder can cause negative attitudes that hinder the due treatment of the people who suffer it. Based on the above, the goal of this investigation was to explore the beliefs of teenagers between 15 and 17 years old about depression in adolescence. This was carried out through a semi-structured interview that revolved around several focal points used in previous research. The results showed that teenagers possess a degree of knowledge about depression from informal sources, which can cause the perpetuation of misconceptions about the disorder. Moreover, most of the their beliefs revolved around interpersonal relationships, an important element within the developmental stage of adolescence. Finally, the participants perceived a high level of prejudice in their environment against depressed people, which according to them would make it difficult for them to recieve help.
