Abstract
This work seeks to reflect on the ethical responsibility of music teachers in relation to the professional development of their students, both in the musical and ethical aspects. The problem that this paper seeks to expose discuss the lack of dialogue about the commitment and values of teaching in general, and the competencies necessary for better music teaching, due to the lack of pedagogy in some teachers. Likewise, it seeks to inform about the consequences that a teacher, without the adequate pedagogy, can inflict on the student's ethic and on his development as a musician. Due to this, different authors are used, among them Vernia and Hortal, to generate a discussion of the competences of a music teacher and professional ethics. In this way, it is planned to reach a consensus of what it means to practice teaching in music. However, it is not possible to arrive at an established model because the social, political and economic environment influence in the development of education. Therefore, is proposed the solution of raising awareness based on general principles that every good music teacher must possess, and also seeks to create spaces to talk about this in institutions.
