Abstract
This report presents the effect of life expectancy on three very important variables in economic development in Latin America: fertility rate, education and labor participation. The current state of theoretical and empirical knowledge is mentioned. A theoretical model that explains the relationship between the variables of interest, as well as the predictions of the independent variable on the others, is also described. Finally, the empirical model, some stylized facts and preliminary conclusions and implications are presented. Initial results predict a causal relationship between life expectancy and the relevant variables; however, econometric analysis is needed to demonstrate the actual relationship between these variables.
