Abstract
tema.
The purpose of this study was to inquire about the grief experience of young adults that had a bond with their pet, by analizing their subjective experience. The method applied on this study was the qualitative investigation with phenomenological approach. Seven young adults from Lima were interviewed all of which had lost their dog or cat in a period of no less than eight monts nor more than two years. The results were divided in 4 topics: coexistance with the pet, bond with the pet, grief following the loss of the pet and the social perception around the grieving of a pet. The findings indicate that the human-pet bond is the main factor for determining the intensity of the grief, the guilt appears as an important element in this type of grief and the society, by downplaying this issue, can interfere with the regular development of grief. It raises the need for more similar research in the Latin American context to be able to visualize this topic.
