La música de los chunchos en la Fiesta de las Cruces de Luricocha: una etnografía musical
Abstract
La fiesta de las cruces es una actividad muy importante dentro del calendario litúrgico del mundo
andino en muchas partes del Perú. Sin embargo, esta festividad se destaca en el pueblo de
Luricocha, en Ayacucho, por la particularidad de su personaje principal: el chuncho, que,
únicamente utilizando la antara -instrumento de origen prehispánico- es el encargado de la música
ritual y la adoración, y tiene un rol imprescindible en el desarrollo de la festividad; pues como
mencionan los pobladores “sin chunchos no hay fiesta de las cruces”. Es así que el presente trabajo
etnográfico pretende aportar a la comprensión del significado de los chunchos para el pueblo de
Luricocha, desde una mirada musical; ya que es en la música que se desglosan diversas
significancias y subjetividades que de otra manera serían más difíciles de observar. Para tal
objetivo, se procedió a realizar un análisis cualitativo, utilizando las herramientas metodológicas
que brinda la etnografía: se ha realizado un análisis empírico descriptivo orientado al registro de
datos adquirido en la observación in situ de la festividad. Luego, se procedió a realizar un análisis
teórico musical de cierto repertorio escogido de las cuadrillas de chunchos en distintos momentos
de la fiesta, con el afán de recopilar información teórica musical que pueda aportar a la
comprensión general de este fenómeno. Por último, espero que este trabajo contribuya y brinde
elementos para el entendimiento del personaje del chuncho y su respectiva música, y a su vez,
brinde luces acerca de la representatividad y la importancia de la música en contextos rituales
andinos.
