La presente investigación surgió de la necesidad de contribuir a crear mayor conciencia de la importancia del discurso narrativo en el currículo escolar. Para ello, el objetivo de la investigación fue describir las características del discurso narrativo en niños de 4 a 5 años de una Institución Educativa Parroquial del distrito de Cercado de Lima.
La investigación siguió el enfoque cuantitativo, diseño no experimental, de tipo transversal, descriptivo-comparativo. La muestra estuvo conformada por 40 alumnos de nivel inicial de 4 años y 5 años.
Para realizar esta investigación se empleó la prueba estandarizada de la Evaluación del Discurso Narrativo (EDNA). Los resultados evidencian que no existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas en el desempeño narrativo, en la dimensión comprensión del discurso entre los niños de 4 y 5 años. En cambio, sí existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas en la dimensión producción del
discurso narrativo.
Los resultados permiten afirmar que los niños de 4 años presentan un nivel de no estructura mayor a la de sus pares de 5 años
