The pharmaceutical market in Peru has experienced a significant growth during the last 15 years. IMS Health (IMS, 2013). Under this context, it is necessary that pharmaceutical companies implement a quality management system (QMS) in order to satisfy their customers’ expectations in terms of offered products and services. The objective of this research is to compare the levels of quality perceived by companies of the Pharmaceutical Laboratory Sector in Lima - Peru that have a quality management system (QMS) in contrast with those companies that do not have one, in relation to nine factors of total quality management (TQM) proposed model by Benzaquen (2013). A survey was conducted to 148 companies of the Pharmaceutical Laboratory Sector in Lima - Peru. As a result of this process, the investigators collected 68 surveys, 53 of which have a quality management system (QMS). The 78% has a quality management system (QMS). The study results showed that companies that have implemented a quality management system (QMS) have better indicators in the total quality management (TQM) factors, mainly in the factors related to Quality Planning and Education and Training, factors that are implemented and monitored in tested companies. The study showed that there is a significant difference between the perceived level of quality between pharmaceutical laboratory sector companies in Lima-Peru to 2014 with a quality management system (QMS) and those without it. Companies with a quality management system (QMS) have a higher level of quality perception concerning with each of the nine factors than those not certified. These findings could serve as a basis to develop future researches that allow improving the competitiveness of this sector at a national level.es_ES
