Burnout y condiciones laborales en enfermeras y técnicas de cuidados intensivos neonatales

Abstract

En el presente estudio se tuvo como objetivo explorar la existencia del síndrome de burnout materializado en tres dimensiones: cansancio emocional, despersonalización y baja realización personal; así como explorar las condiciones laborales en el personal de enfermería de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales de un Hospital Nacional Materno Infantil. La muestra no probabilística se conformó de 17 enfermeras y 11 técnicas de enfermería (N=28), en su mayoría casadas con hijos laborando un promedio de 10 años en el hospital. La medición de las dimensiones del síndrome se realizó utilizando el Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI); y para la indagación de las condiciones laborales se construyó una ficha sociodemográfica y un cuestionario laboral. Los resultados revelaron la existencia de cansancio emocional medio y baja realización personal. La escala de despersonalización no se analiza debido a su baja confiabilidad. En adición se encontró una correlación negativa significativa entre edad y cansancio emocional; así como la existencia de cinco variables vinculadas a las dificultades laborales en la unidad: ambiente, organización, labor, relaciones interpersonales y factores personales. El ambiente y la organización fueron las variables a las que se hizo alusión con mayor frecuencia señalándolas como fuentes de dificultad.

The aim of the present study was to explore the existence of the burnout syndrome materialized in three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment; and also to explore the work conditions in the nursing staff of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a National Mother-Infant Hospital. The non-probabilistic sample consisted of 17 female nurses and 11 female nurse technicians (N=28), who were mainly married with children, working an average of 10 years in the hospital. The quantification of the syndrome’s dimensions was accomplished using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and for the examination of the work conditions, a sociodemographic survey and a work questionnaire were created. The results reveal the existence of medium levels of emotional exhaustion and low personal accomplishment. The depersonalization scale is not interpreted because of the low fiabilty rate found in it. Another finding was the significant negative correlation between age and emotional exhaustion, in addition to the five variables found to be related to the difficulties of working in the unit: environment, organization, labor, interpersonal relations, personal factors. The most frequent variables pointed out as the source of the difficulties, turned out to be the environment and the organization.
