Efectos de la “Iniciativa de Conservación del Bosque de Protección Alto Mayo”

Abstract

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar los diversos efectos que genera una iniciativa de conservación y aprovechamiento sostenible de recursos naturales en un Área Natural Protegida (ANP) y en la población que habita en ella. Para ello, analizamos el caso del proyecto desarrollado por la organización no gubernamental Conservación Internacional Perú (CI Perú) denominado “Iniciativa para la Conservación del Bosque de Protección Alto Mayo” (ICAM), ubicado en las provincias de Rioja y Moyobamba en la Región San Martín. La investigación realizada es un diagnóstico intermedio, de carácter cualitativo que nos ha permitido conocer los efectos que ha tenido la ICAM sobre los beneficiarios y la conservación del área, a través de entrevistas profundas a los principales actores del proyecto. La muestra fue significativa y elegida por conveniencia y el método de muestreo fue no probabilístico. Se llevaron a cabo 18 entrevistas a profundidad que nos sirvieron para analizar la percepción de los 3 principales actores del proyecto, los beneficiarios, el personal que trabaja en la gestión del área protegida y la organización ejecutora del proyecto. La investigación nos permitió conocer que entre los principales efectos de la ICAM, destaca el que la población beneficiara se ha empoderado en el uso de prácticas agrícolas sostenibles a través de los talleres de capacitación impartidos, la asistencia técnica y el uso de parcelas demostrativas desarrollados por el proyecto, lo que ha significado una mayor percepción de bienestar y contribución al cuidado del medio ambiente, dado que ya no talan más el bosque, y por el contrario utilizan menores superficies de cultivo y reforestan las áreas degradadas.

The goal of the following research was to identify the effects caused by a conservation and sustainable use of natural resources initiative in a natural protected area (NPA) and in the population settled inside. For this purpose, we analyzed the project developed by the nonprofit environmental organization Conservation International Alto Mayo Protected Forest Conservation Initiative (AMCI) located between the provinces of Rioja and Moyobamba in the Region of San Martin. The study is an intermediate diagnosis of qualitative nature that allowed us to obtain information about the effects that the AMCI had on its beneficiaries and the NPA conservation through in-depth interviews to the project main stakeholders. The sample was significative, and the chosen technique was the convenience sampling, a non-probability sampling technique where subjects were selected because of their convenient accessibility. To analyze the perception of the 3 main stakeholders of the project, 18 in-depth interviews were conducted to the beneficiaries, the NPA and CI staff. The research allowed us to know that among the main effects of the ICAM, it stands out that the beneficiary population has been empowered in the use of sustainable agricultural practices through the training workshops given, the technical assistance and the use of demonstration plots developed by the project, which has meant a greater perception of wellbeing and contribution to the care of the environment, given that they no longer cut down the forest, and on the contrary use smaller areas of crop and reforest the degraded areas.
