Choques de gigantes : impacto de China y EEUU en Latinoamérica
Abstract
El posible escenario de una desaceleración abrupta de la economía China y los
riesgos de que la escalada de la tensión comercial golpeen a la recuperación de EEUU, configuran choques negativos que impactan a nivel mundial. El efecto en las economías en desarrollo puede ser diverso, si se considera los diferentes grados de relación comercial que mantienen respecto a dichas economías claves. El presente documento analiza, principalmente, el efecto de choques de demanda negativos de EEUU y China en Latinoamérica. Adicionalmente, se analiza el efecto que una caída del precio del cobre tendría para dicha región. Para el análisis se utiliza el modelo Global VAR con dos economías principales y materias primas, que considera interrelaciones entre países y efectos de segunda vuelta. Se encuentra que los choques impactan negativamente a la mayor parte de las economías del modelo, pero de manera diferenciada tanto en magnitud como en duración. Los canales de transmisión identificados son el comercial, el financiero y el de materias primas, los cuales responden a lo observado en la literatura. Asimismo, se observa la importancia que adquiere la introducción de la economía China como un segundo actor principal en la economía mundial, en tanto que la relación que los países mantienen con dicha economía afecta el impacto de los choque evaluados.
