¿Cómo motivar y retener al talento humano? Es una pregunta que muchas organizaciones se cuestionan, ya que su buena gestión es crucial para el logro de los objetivos organizacionales. La presente investigación se centra en analizar las estrategias motivacionales que se implementan en las universidades públicas y privadas de Lima Metropolitana para retener a los docentes de las mismas. Para ello, se ha revisado literatura teórica que aborda los principales conceptos de la motivación y retención. Asimismo, se utilizó literatura empírica para conocer la manera en que estos conceptos pueden ser implementados en las organizaciones, haciendo énfasis en universidades. Además de la revisión teórica, se abordaron distintas perspectivas del sector superior universitario, empezando por un análisis a nivel internacional para luego aterrizar al plano peruano.
El principal resultado de esta investigación es que las teorías de motivación están estrechamente relacionadas con las estrategias de retención y son fundamentales en la gestión del talento. Sin embargo, en el sector educativo universitario no se ha abordado a profundidad este tema. A pesar de ello, las universidades privadas en el Perú han demostrado tener una mayor iniciativa por implementar estrategias de retención a través de la motivación hacia sus docentes en comparación de las universidades pública
