This research examines television fiction as an audiovisual discourse and as a cultural product that reflects social dynamics, gender representations and subjectivities of the historic moment. Television reproduces general norms and traditional mandates about individuals and their roles but, as in the case of ‘Borgen’, the feminine is constructed as an active political subject with social agency. The main objective of this study is to link the construction of characters in contemporary audiovisual narrative with the concepts of technologies and gender studies. Through the discourse analysis of the television series ‘Borgen’, it is demonstrated that the audiovisual representation of women from a gender perspective can generate behaviors that subserve equal opportunities in a patriarchal sociopolitical space and time. By supplementing these concepts with studies of power, subject and politics, this research defends the active role of women as a catalyst capable of changing society and building it from the principles of the common good, inclusion and parity in all its spheres. The narrative codes of the television series ‘Borgen’ develop new female archetypes that dilute stereotypes by bringing viewers closer to gender equality as a noble gesture and respect for human freedoms....

This research aims to analyze the manifestation of compulsory heterosexuality in the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena (1997) through its two main characters, Utena and Anthy. For this, Adrienne Rich’s compulsory heterosexuality mandates were used, proposing three reactions to them: adherence, opposition and neutrality. As support, a series of features usually associated with masculine or feminine behaviors on audiovisual products were identified, using the investigations from Therese Ottosson and Xin Cheng, and from Dawn Elizabeth England, Lara Descartes y Melissa A. Collier-Meek. Then, these variables were applied to the characters of Utena and Anthy, picking the eight episodes that best exemplify their evolution through the story. Based on the analysis, it’s concluded that compulsory heterosexuality manifests as the biggest antagonistic power for the main characters, Utena and Anthy. Furthermore, these manifestations appear in the frame of conventions and rules established in three anime categories dedicated to female characters and/or lesbian relationships (shojo, yuri and Class- S). Even though these three exist within the traditional, they will be re-configured and subverted in RGU’s story. From this, compulsory heterosexuality will be represented through different visual and narrative elements which Utena and Anthy will gradually oppose, mobilizing a series of changes in the gender representation of said characters through the story and emphasizing the revolutionary possibility of lesbian love. Therefore, a standardized gender representation won’t be found but rather one that is constructed personally, and is honest for both characters based on their similarities and differences....

At the present time, the anemia keeps representing a risk to most of Peruvians children and pregnant women. As a result, in 2017 the Peruvian Government created a national program that introduced different types of campaigns, actions and activities to prevent, diagnose and eradicate the anemia in Peru. This investigation is based on the analysis of the communicational construction on the anemia in children made by the Ministry of Health in Peru from the reproduction of gender roles in mothers and fathers during the two campaigns named Juntos Goleamos a la Anemia and El Mejor Equipo contra la Anemia. The first campaign took place on October of 2017 and the second campaign was since May to October of 2018. In order to identify the characters that appear, the situations, and the messages enunciated in the official spots and promotional videos, discourse analysis and modal discourse analysis (DMA) were used as tools. In addition, proposed behavior changes were identified distinctively for mothers and fathers. The results of the investigation showed that during the two campaign, mothers were the protagonists of all the videos and sole caregivers of their children. Consequently, the campaigns represent men in positions of power and omit the representation of men as fathers since no specific caregiving behavior is attributed to them....
