Addressing the diversity of learning paces is crucial for educational equity; therefore, it is essential to analyze how teachers approach these paces. This research studies the pedagogical practices used to address this diversity in a second-grade classroom in a primary school in Metropolitan Lima, Peru, by asking: How is the diversity of learning paces addressed in a second-grade classroom in a primary school in Metropolitan Lima? The overall objective is to analyze these practices from two fundamental perspectives: actions that foster motivation and those that promote engagement in learning. The methodology is qualitative with a descriptive design, centered on a case study of a teacher; non-participant observation and semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. The contributions of this work focus on the identification of differentiated practices and the discovery of an emerging category. It is concluded that, while the teacher effectively promotes balanced motivation and commitment, as demonstrated by students' ability to create their own challenges, the effectiveness of her practices is limited by peer pressure and the need to resort to behavioral management measures. This demonstrates that the challenge is both pedagogical and systemic.
